HDD not recognized in other computer

I have a 3TB WD Red refurb drive I just received for my HTPC to be used as the backup media drive. I hooked the new drive up to my desktop using a Xigmatek external HDD reader, secure erased it with Acronis, formatted it up with a GPT partition (it's 3TB, right?) and reloaded the backup media files on it.

Last night I swapped the drive into my HTPC... it did not recognize it at all and I had to reformat it and reload the media files on it again. 😡

It seems to be happy now, but for future reference... what went wrong? Was it the GPT partition (this is the first drive I've partition using GPT,) or what? 😕
