HDD media player

It seems like a good deal with HDMI. My only concern is the FAT32 and it may be only for PATA drives.

Anyone tried these types of media players since it is cheaper than the popcornhour or a full HTPC.



edit: shipping is VERY high. To ohio it ranges from $37 to $53 depending on the carrier.

Newegg and geeks.com have carried several brands of HDD enclosures with AV players for $50 -250, but the user reviews and googling have usually turned up problems and little or no support from the manufacturer.

And none of them support FLAC audio :( .

I think I am going to look into something like the Apple TV. Although, that popcornhour device looks cool, but there seems to be a long waiting list.

There's an entire line of devices based off the Syabas "Network Media Tank" firmware/software that are all basically the same. Popcorn Hour is one of these.

Yep. I had a Popcorn Hour and now have an iStar HD. They're essentially the same exact thing other than a few hardware differences.
