HDD making odd rattling noises

I just noticed today how my HDD (WD Blue WD10EZEX) sometimes makes weird noises when spinning.
Since I've got an SSD with OS and my software installed, the HDD is set to spin down so as to minimise noise when I'm not accessing it. The drive is less than 6 months old, and I've had it spin down for the past 2 months, sometimes forcing it to stop using a program I saw recommended somewhere called HDDScan 3.3.

I can't really describe the noise except to say it sounds as though something is rattling. If I poke the drive with my finger it stops for a while, but then resumes at some point, perhaps within 15 minutes. I'm sure it hasn't made these noises before or I definitely would've noticed it, so it's a recent phenomenon.

Is it a sign of the platter failing or something?

It's definitely a sign of failure if you ask me. I had a similar issue with my 1TB Seagate. It was making the spin up noise/clicks when I would use my PC for desktop use or gaming. It would cause my games to freeze up for a split second when the issue occurred. I ran all sorts of test (SMART, etc) and detected nothing. About a month later, I get a windows notification that my HDD is failing and I should backup data before I lose it.

Since you have a 6 month old drive, which means it has to be under warranty, back up whatever you need from it and request an RMA.
