im goint to keep this short, but what is cable select in the jumper settings? i understand master and slave. Also. i have 2 IDE connectors(uATA mb) 1 has a dvd burner(master) and 1 cdrom drive (slave), but the other one is 1 HDD only.

If i plan to make a dual boot system by connecting 2 hdd in a master/slave arrangement , how should i set the jumpers? 1 to master, 1 to slave or both to calbe select?

Cable select mode lets the master and slave be determined by the hard drives position on the ATA cable. As far as your dual boot system, I would set the current hard drive as master, and then set the new drive to slave. But it works either way, so I wouldn't be too worried about it, so long as you don't have one set to cable select, and the other set to slave.

Hi, A cable for Cable Select has a few of the wires "Crossed" so that they do not connect the same pins on all connectors. They determine which is Master and which is slave by the connector you use. A good example is the Floppy cable. It has been cable select from about 1980 or earlier. Jim

For cable select, the drive at the end of the cable will be master and the middle connection will be slave.
