When selecting all files and folders, including hidden and system objects, in the root folder of C:\, and viewing properties and its size, should it exactly match what Windows reports as "used" on the drive? When selecting all files it shows 27.5 GB, but it says 30.8 GB is "used" on the drive. I want my 3 gigs back.

I did a few system restores and now the difference between the two readings is 8 GB. Is that from System Restore using more space after doing the restores? How can I find out how much it's using?

are you using a page file system? that will take up a few gig and will not be shown when you select the whole C drive

I checked show hidden and show system files, so it was in my selection.

I reduced system restore down to 3%, the difference between the readings is still 5 gigs.

Also, before anyone mentions these, system restore is reduced to 3%, pagefile is only set to 1.5 GB, recycle bin is empty, all temp files are cleared, etc.
