HDD failed - any ideas?

I have two hdds, and the secondary one failed today. I was playing CS with Kazaa running in the background. Then suddenly CS froze up, and I had to press the reset button. When the computer restarted, it did not recognize my second hdd. I restarted again, same result. I then turned the machine off and unplugged and replugged the secondary hdd, rebooted, and everything was okay again.

It was kind of scary for a moment. So I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas what might have been the problem.

I'm using two special edition Western Digitals, one 80gb and one 200gb.

Thanks for any insight.

Try a new cable. Download and use ActiveSmart to see if anything shows up in the drives SMART info.

Kazaa occasionally freezes on ym computer. I switches to K-lite at K-Lite's webpage. Download it there. Haven't had a kazaa freeze since

Probably the drive spun down as a result of the freeze/reset and then didn't spin up again until a cold reboot after turning the power all the way off, but yeah get that program and check the SMART data on the drive.
