got a hdd here that froze when trying to open an excel file and then shut down the machine. this is a win2000 box. the machine tried to boot but then only a blinking cursor appeared at the bottom of the screen and slowly jumped around along the bottom of the screen...wierd! so i took out the hdd and slaved it to another machine and got access to the faulty hdd enough to run a virus scan (clean), but when i tried to copy some files from the faulty hdd to the good hdd in the system, it locked up. i rebooted three times and each time, whenever i tried to go into my computer, the my computer screen came up blank and locked up. so i tried once more to boot with the faulty drive only and got this error: "WINNT\INF\BIOSINFO.INF" is missing or corrupt. would not boot past that. so i slapped in the win2000 disk and went into recovery console and tried to copy "BIOSINFO.INF" to the WINNT\INF folder of the faulty drive, but it gave me an "ACCESS DENIED" error...WHY?? also, i cannot do a DIR on the drive...it says "AN ERROR OCCURRED DURING DIRECTORY ENUMERATION"
my two questions: WHY IS ACCESS DENIED ON THE DRIVE WHEN I TRY TO COPY A FILE TO IT?
WHAT DOES THE DIRECTORY ENUMERATION ERROR MEAN?
i have not heard any clicking from the hdd so far. thanks tons for any input.
