I was just working on my comp and suddenly, my hard drive (IBM Deskstar 60GXP) started clicking. Everything froze except for the music that was playing, but that is stored in my Audigy. So my question is, is there anything I can do to save it. Hopefully tomorrow I'm getting a new WD800JB.

The Deathstar strikes again. Back up your data ASAP.

You left that tidbit of info out of your original post. ;) I had a 75GXP that would exhibit the "cat scratch" sound and fail to boot on occasion. If I let it sit for a bit and tried several more times it would give in. Keep trying.....

No, I can hear it click distinctly. It doesn't sound like a scratch at all. I do keep trying, it fails to detect the hdd and tries to boot with the cd and fdd. A friend of mine had a 75gxp that clicked, but was able to recover his data. I was wondering how? Another one of my friends told me to seal it up and put it in the freezer.

Set up a new hd, get it ready to go and use the freezer trick. Out of the freezer, connect the bad hd and and see if you can get it going. If so, copy everything IMMEDIATELY to the new hard drive. If you're lucky, this will work.

neutralizer, i had the same thing happen just last week...i got woke up at 6am by an alarm-like sound, which turned out to be my 46.1GB 75GXP dieing on me in spectacular screetch-click glory....it was from then on undetectable by the system just like yours. I was aware of the freezer trick but i didnt bother doing that, there was nothing on tehre i particularly feel upset about losing, i knew better than to trust it with anything like that, despite the fact it worked like a charm for 18months straight. Nope, the drives on its way back to IBM and will be sold unopened on its return, whatever it may be that arrives on my doorstep.

That is my most hated computer sound ever. Last time I heard that sound people could hear my cursing outside my house...
