I usually copy one hdd to another for backup. I just changed the cable, as my primary HDD was not booting, after connecting the backup drive for files transfer. Can a cable go bad?? I did not abuse the connection. It just would not boot.:Q
make sure you have your bootable hd's jumper set to master and the cable is connected to the master controller. also the bootable hd should be at the end of the ribbon cable and not at the middle.
now boot and go into your bios and change hd settings from the old drive to the new drive.
that it. all will be good.
Cables can and do go bad. The connector is 'pressed' on to the cable. Metal 'spikes' make the connection thru the insulation. Its possible that the 'spike' only made a slight connection and over time the connection was lost.
