HDD Busy LED Connector "Y" Harness

I just picked up a Syba IDE controller card so that I can run a Raid array using two MAxtor 160GB hard drives. On the board there is a connector for the HDD busy light, but if I connect it to my case I lose the functionality of the HDD Busy form my MOBO where my boot drive will remain. Does anyone make a Y harness to be able to connect both.

Can I make one or is there a potential problem when the IDE card lights the LED that it will send voltage back up the motherboard or vise versa?

I would really prefer to have both HDD busy plugs attached to the LED.

I looked around but couldn't find any. But if you made your own from parts, I think it would work.

A couple alternatives would be to use a program like DriveLED, or to use your case power LED as a second HDD busy LED. If you can hear when your rig is turned on, you don't need the powe LED anyway.

Kranky, thanks for the input. I couldn't find any Y harnesses either so I thought about making one. My main concern was voltage going back up to the mobo from the card when the HDD busy light is activated (or vice versa). I kind of kicked around the idea of using the power LED for a second HDD busy light and that might be my best option. The rig is quiet, but I am usually aware of when they are on regardless of the light.

You could always buy an Antec SX600, SX800 case, they have 3 HDD LED lights on the front of each case, I always had 2 HDD LEDs pinned out when I used my SX600 case.

Sonata case is brand new so there are no plans for another case. Though I did think about adding another led. But, I would probably build a small harness first and if the voltage flowing back up turns out to be a problem I know that with a few small componenets and I can prevent reverse flow.

Looking for a supplier for the 2 pin plugs used on the case wiring for LEDs and switches, etc. I can't seem to find any. My guess is that I am searching under the wrong terminology. Anyone offer me some help where they have found them or what the correct name is for the 2pin plugs.

You're welcome. Don't forget to order the pins as well (HDPINF on that site). Good luck with your project.

I'm a little concerned ordering from them. Have you ever placed an order with them. I'm not familiar with them, but that may be because I don't normally buy components such as this. There prices are great and shipping is good too.

Checked their reseller ratings and NOT GOOD!.

I will have to find another supplier, but at least I know what I am looking for now.

After further review, I am just going to make an extension for the power LED since the case has two additional LEDs on the front. Trying to make the Y harness is too much of a pain and not worth it. I found the parts at a good price, but the shipping kills it.
