My older version of Acronis will not work with my new UEFI motherboard. Since I'm just doing simple manual partition backups, can someone suggest a (preferably free) replacement? Hopefully with a similar UI to Acronis.

I am a big fan of Macrium Reflect. Their free version is great (paid version adds automatic scheduled backups). It backs up the drive to a .mrimg file, from which you can make additional differential or incremental backups. It has some extra features like the ability to mount the drive image as a disk & the ability to convert the drive image to a virtual machine.

I downloaded and installed Macrium Free and I'm really impressed. If it does what it says I'd say it beats Acronis.

Question on compression: I'm assuming "intelligent sector copy" will copy everything I need for effective restore, eliminating the need to copy unused space on the partition?

Also nice to see it works in Linux as I'm considering setting up a Mint machine.

much thanks!!
