HDD 5 year warranties

I'm thinking of adding a couple of internal SATA drives to my Windows Home Server machine. Suffice it to say, these are drives that won't be changed until they die. That being the case, I'd like to get drives that will stand the test of time. Drives in the 1T to 2T are under consideration.

What hard drives are now being made that offer 5-year warranties? Unfortunately, that's one item that you can't use as a search criteria at places such as NewEgg.

Any reccomendations?

The only ones I know for sure have a 5-yr warranty are Seagates. WDC has moved to 5 yr. Hitachi depends on the drive model. No experience with Samsung.
 
samsung HE103UJ (spinpoint F1 enterprise) has a 7 year warranty, seagate still has 5 year on all their retail box drives that i have seen, WD Caviar Black and RE drives all come with 5 year warranties as well. i would be considering the caviar blacks if you're just looking for a couple TB of reliable storage.
 
Unfortuntately, warranties have little or nothing to do with the life or reliability of hard disks. Warranty lengths are decided by marketing considerations. If a disk fails and happens to be under warranty, you'll also need to consider the trouble involved in returning it, the fact that if it's an external disk, you can't open the housing to try to recover the data without killing the warranty, and the high likelihood that you'll get a "refurbished" disk in return.

the freeagent i got from TD with bing have 5 years. they are throw away drives of course. back your azz up. If you want a drive that will last 5 years go SAS enteprise (3.5" 600meg). 2.5" 450/600gb are not out for a few more months 🙂 SAS - drives that last 10 years
