Why don't we have reasonably priced LCDs yet that are HDCP compliant? It is irritating as I am on my CRT and have been waiting for months. 😛

With Vista around the corner I am just shocked at the lack of choice in the HDCP compliant mid range LCDs.

I am just wondering if the licensing fee is really high? Or could it be because HDMI 1.3 has just been released and even that is apparently not perfect.
 
Not many video cards do it either so unless u got one of the few cards that do it i wouldnt worry about it 😛.
 
Well the 7950s have HDCP full support, and future ATi releases will have that as well. As for a video card, well it is something you chance three times in five years, while an LCD is something you want to have for at least 5 years. If it can't play HD-DVDs or Blu-Rays, what is the point?
 
Content requiring HDCP is sparse, graphics cards with it even more so and the drives are prohibitively expensive. Not many folks are itching to spend $1000 to watch a few crappy movies on a little PC display. Surely, licensing and beyond that additional manufacturing costs are issues. Every penny counts so there is no point in adding features if they will not increase sales (or at least maintain in the case where they are adopted by competitors). While HDMI has a head start and may well carry on in the slower moving home electronics market, on the PC side it seems UDI or DP or some merging of them is more likely to prevail.
