hdcp and "vista ready" lcds?

what is the relavance of hdcp and "vista ready" lcds? i bought a dell 2005 two weeks ago which doesnt support hdcp. will i be missing that much on new version of windows when it comes out. high definition is nice .....but is it imparative? will i be missing something huge in the way vista looks and feels? should i return for dell 2007?
 
Vista will run on a 2005FPW just fine. You can watch any HD DivX or unencrypted codecs all you want. The problem arises when you want to watch Blu-Ray or HD-DVD discs that insist HDCP protection be enabled. The 2005FPW does not support HDCP.

I'm hoping this technology will be cracked. In my opinion, this is just ridiculous. Just how much protection technology are they willing to put into our expense into purchasing content? C'mon, let's see:

Macrovsision
Region Codes - not sure if this applies, but it's a hassle for those who enjoy imports/anime
DSS Encoding &/or anti-copy protection

Let's put HDCP on this list! Let's also not forget how many DAMN ads/previews they bundle on a DVD. It's pretty pathetic - some companies put on previews you can't fast-forward through. Rewind back to the days of VHS. No matter, right? Just hit the FFW>> button and you're set! Nope, not today! You're FORCED to watch their BS. When I buy a DVD or media, I want just the media and the movie; NO ADs! At least make them selective.

HDCP-compliance is just another one of the hoops we, as consumers, are forced to jump through. Is there any technology out there that hasn't been cracked/hacked? I'd like to see what the cost of a DVD would be if they didn't have to factor in the costs of R&D for anti-piracy methods.

I bought a CD and two DVD movies here on the FS/FT forum. Why? NICE PRICES! If the media is cheap, I, for one among many, are willing to buy the real deal! I just don't understand why RIAA/MPAA feel they have to make it so expensive for consumers to purchase content new.

HDCP has been cracked but the guy who cracked it refuses to release it because he doesn't want to be prosecuted under some useless US law
