Ok if I understand things correctly the HDCP standard will only allow highdef content to go to DVI/HDMI devices. So who cares as long as your video card can convert HDCP content to high res VGA output? Or would it be illegal to produce such a video card? It may be all moot since Blueray is not really catching on. It really seems like the HD content folks are shooting themselves in the foot by adopting such a standard. So bottom line is if I buy a wide screen monitor with VGA output that it WON'T play HDCP content PERIOD? My main application would be to have an HTPC with a highdef tuner card installed at some point. At some point in the distant future, assuming Blueray becomes the next DVD standard, I will need an HDCP monitor. It makes no sense to encrypt the connection between the computer and the TV monitor. It just makes a simple thing hard.
