Hello everyone, I just joined Anandtech community with a problem I cant seem to solve on my own.
I recently purchased a Gigabyte HD7850 oc edition for light gaming. It worked fine for 2 days until a friend gave me a copy of his Diablo 3, after installing it the graphic card started running on max on idle at 975/1200 without running any game (temp got to 70c) and the computer stopped working. To be more specific the graphic card stopped working ie the fans stopped and everything else was still running but the screen went blank.
same thing happened after restarting the computer.
basically I dont like taking any chances so I formatted the computer and everything went back to normal. except when playing games after a few hours (2-3) the graphic card crashed again. (GPU-Z log showed max temp at 32c)
I RMA'd the card and they sent it back saying its fine. Well its not.
System Specs.
AMD Phenom x3 8450 @2.1ghz OC to 2.5ghz
GA-MA78G-DS3H
2x 1GB DDR2 1066mhz
1x 2GB DDR2 1066mhz
1x 2GB DDR2 800mhz
1x 250GB HDD
3x 500GB HDD
1x 1TB HDD
Epsilon PSU 600w
Gigabyte processor heatsink+fan
I would like to hear out your idea's on whats happening.
I know for a fact that the VGA wont run at full performance cuz of the processor slowing it down.
I spoke to the gigabyte company and they said my specs should work perfectly fine.
Updated motherboard bios to latest.
last catalyst version I used was 12.10 i havent tried anything newer yet.
