Hi guys,

I have a problem with my new HD7770 - some games start at 24Hz and I can't find a way to make them run (well, make everything run) at 60Hz. I'm using the latest Catalyst beta and latest Application profiles. Anybody have any pointers? The special HDTV modes under Catalyst control panel cannot be removed - the "Remove" button is greyed out.

EDID data from TV might be screwed. Might need to edit the registry and add modelines. I don't recall the specifics.

Damn, and I thought it was going to be easy :(. So far I found that in order to get 60Hz in games I have to edit config files and set the refresh rate manually. But if a game does not allow to set refresh in a config file I'm SOL.

This is a common problem on AMD/ATI cards and some HDTVs. Had similar issues before. Some games get some trouble on my Nvidia cards as well. It's just that AMD uses a more safe approach and that ends up to be an annoyance for the end user.

What you should do:
1) Install your HDTV's latest drivers. There might be some info there that will guide the graphics card driver in a better way.
2) Create a custom resolution of 1920X1079 and select that from within your games.

You can always try creating a driver yourself, by using moninfo.

Sometimes it helps.

Regardless, the 1920X1079 resolution is sure to work, since it will be based solely on the 1920X1080@60Hz resolution with the difference that there will be no other refreshes reported, since you will create a single one.

That program is my last hope :D. Gonna try it when I get back from work. Thanks.

Ugh. I'm going through similar trouble with a 7770 and a new Samsung 51" 1080p Plasma now. It was working fantastic with a little older driver, but the HDD bombed so I got a new drive, loaded fresh, installed 12.11 drivers, and HDMI audio stopped working. Nothing I'm trying is fixing it.

Is AMD slacking on driver development or something? The last official driver is from October, and the 'betas' have been languishing since the beginning of December. Seems like they are just sitting on their butts (or they've all been downsized due to the financial troubles?).

I plug my 670 in there, and bingo, first time every time it all works perfectly. Ugh. It's this kind of thing that makes me perhaps just want to skip AMD entirely when considering my next GPU purchase.

Similar issues with a 7750 when I went to 12.10. Rolled back to 12.8 and everything is dandy now. It can be difficult to find, but somewhere on AMD's page they do have a link to older Catalyst packages. OP, you might want to try this as well. It's a quick, free experiment.

I also have a HD7770, connected to a Samsung 46inch , 60hz lcd through HDMI.
I haven't had any issues playing games, set up or with connectivity EXCEPT with playing a specific set of avi's in XBMC.
Episode plays for couple of minutes, then scree goes black and then a few moments later the audio flakes out. Plays fine using any other player than XBMC.

I'll keep an eye out for the issues you are seeing..
