HD6850 "hitching" during gameplay?

I notice my HD6850 has a hitch in some games no matter what I do or how smooth I get the framerate.

For example in Far Cry 3 and GTA 4, I have both games set up so they easily average well over 60fps, but the game still hitches and stutters, more than I remember console games stuttering.

It's like every 10-15 seconds (unpredictable really) there is a slightly hitch, and the game will continue to play smoothly except for that hitch.

I noticed it most in the 2 games mentioned, I also tend to notice it in Diablo 3 and Fallout 3/New Vegas, where I am averaging over 100 fps.

I feel while my GPU is not top of the line, my overall system is well balanced and shouldn't have any major bottlenecks causing "hitches" in gameplay when the FPS shows +60 fps?

Any thoughts?

Sadly those two games are notorious for being poorly coded. Patch up FC3, i hear the recent patch fix a lot of the stuttering.

Diablo 3 is a special case, i played it a lot, it does not load all the resources into your system ram upon loading a level or starting a new game. Once an enemy appear or a special ability is used, its loaded from the HDD, such a stupid design where theres HDD lag of 1/2 a second here and there. Not sure if its fixed, i stop playing it a long time ago. Also NV/F3 i played heaps, its hitching on the HDD as well loading the zone as you travel, got an SSD and its much better.
