I'm looking at buying one of the new HD48701GB Vapor-X edition cards (the ones with the new supercooler design for a few $ more), but given the scaling of the HD4850x2 i was originally planning on getting the 2GB version since it is also within the high end of what i was planning on paying. I want the card to run cool though without a cooler mod/replacment, and quiet, but from the reviews i have seen, the HD4850x2 doesnt meet my cooling/sound requirements on its own. is there any word on if/when we will see a Vapor-X version of the HD4850x2s from sapphire? i will be emailing sapphire with this question as well, but figured i would ask in case i missed a press release somewhere else

There was somebody else that said that. But what is with all these threads about the vapor X coolers? If the cards will be released with this vapor stuff , we'll certainly see them everywhere.

Isn't 2gb a little overboard for a 4870? Is there gonna be worthwhile performance gain in anything other than gta4 (compared to the 1 gig or maybe a 1.5gb compromise). I mean, the gtx295 only has 896mb ram per card, and its slower ram too. Sorry if this was already answered elsewhere, I just noticed it now though.

there is a 1GB version. as for buying this, i think im going to hold out a bit longer on a serious card upgrade to last me a couple. i have been looking forward to project offset since i saw some of the original demos in 2006, and i have a friend welling to sell me a 9800GTX 512MB for $80. should hold me until larrabee launch, and if the cards suck in all the other games i can just get a cheaper one and another nice card then.
