HD4850 vs 9800GT

Hey guys im kinda in a spot, i need to sell my current card(in sig) and need to replace it with the best value for money i can find, now how much faster is the 4850 over the 9800GT? Bcoz thats the cheapest best card i can find, its gonna be a XFX 9800GT which is very nice, but then again if i spend an extra "x" amount (i stay in SA so you guys prob wont know the currency) which is kind of a significant difference, now is there any justification for me to get the 4850 or is the 9800GT still fair? Bcoz i currently run my 8800GT perfectly fine and have no issues with it

Wha :confused:? You have a 8800GT right now it looks like. The 9800GT is effectively a rebadged 8800GT and functionally identical (except for SLI purposes)...

The 4850 does offer a jump in performance...whether it's worth the money to upgrade to from a 8800GT though, mmm, that's a tough one (I probably wouldn't).

Decide for yourself though.

Ok heres the story, my bro built a pc for a person, and put in a 4670 ATi and WOW we didnt know it was such a pile of rubbish till we ran a game etc on it, and its a 1Gb / DDR3 model too, VERY SCARY STUFF! So now i decided i was gonna let my bro sell him my card (the dude gives my bro a bit extra) and then i buy a 4850/9800GT with the balance... but im leaning towards a 4850, and there is no other options, we have to change the GFX card in the pc, so one way or another im gonna be losing a bit of cash, might as well be to the 4850 instead (outperforms the 9800GT quite badly) hmmm, whats ur guys thoughts

edit: we are of course gonna send the GFX card back but then getting a credit at that same place we purchsed from, and the best value for money is 9800GT or 4850

Ok, well that's different then...

If you have to buy a card anyway, then the 4850 is only a little more than a 9800GT, and I'd agree as far as leaning towards that option.

Yeah its bout R300(ZA) more, so maybe i fork it out and get summin half decent, bcoz this place doesnt even have the 4870 listed(not that i would wana spend that much in any case) plus i only wana run it at 1680x1050 res with bit of AA and AF, not too worried bout MAX but do want it running smooth... Hmmm seems like the 4850 my best bet :)

the 4850 is about equal to a 9800GTX or a GTX+ so its definately better than a 8800GT=9800GT.

also, the 4670 is THAT bad, its almost like a 9600GT. i think the fact that your brother built a computer with 1GB of DDR3 is a crime in itself :)

I think he's referring to the version of the 4670 with 1GB of GDDR3. Not a system with 1GB of DDR3 RAM :Q. I hope.

LMFAO! Newegg will DEFINITELY not ship to SA, i can promise you that, and secondly the GFX card was DDR3/1Gb, it has 2 GB of DDR2 RAM(hynix) on it :) but we sorted the issue out actually, the kid screwed the BIOS up, he enabled "Force PEG x1 Link" I MEAN WOW! That enables the PCIx16 to be x1, so its performing 16x better so the kid gonna stick with his 4670 and i wont be upgrading unless its a 4850x2 or the likes when i buy my Core i7, thanks for the info pplz...

Not enought of a gain to warrant an upgrade.

I think he meant that the 4670 had 1 GB of DDR3, not that the whole computer had 1 GB of DDR3.
