Anyone else have experience with the installation of the HD4650 into an HP media center computer?

My machine runs as if it was 10 years old. The drivers rufuse to install and always exhibit a RegPermWrite error.

Any help here would be appreciated.

I am in the process of upgrading a Compaq (HP) Media Center and I can tell you it has the absolute cheapest piece of junk psu I've ever seen. I mean, this thing must be running on the ragged edge. I was considering a 4650 also but this thing shows only 12 amps available on the 12 volt rail and I doubt it even really delivers that. It is puny tiny. Ridiculous.

If everything was fine before you put the card in then it is either the card.......... or the psu just can't take the added stress. I'd bet on the psu.

imho

how old is that Compaq of yours. the lowest psu I have EVER seen in a Compaq media center pc was a 300watt with 19amps and that was 3 years ago. most of them have a 350watt psu.

yeah I knew it had to be older than 3 years. it should be 14amps not 12 though on the 12v line. theres no way any decent card will run safely on that psu because its fairly cheap and now has some years on it too.
