Nice find.. Kinda.

I still want the Best Buy deal, but a guy at my local BB I talked to gave me the date that they will be available again and suffice it to say that the deal will be dead by then.

I guess I'll be jumping on this, but I hate ordering from newegg. As a CA resident I get raped by sales tax and they dont even have free shipping.

Lol, I love that word: "raped"

Matt - yeah, I hesitated even posting this because it really isn't all that 'hot' of a deal. It's just the lowest price for the part right now that has any availability.

Is there a reason you're looking to upgrade right away? The prices will eventually come down a little more, I would expect (and there may even be a few good rebate deals eventually).

Nice find - I'm waiting til they drop down below $300.00 AND when it's not a Sapphire brand [bad experience with their agp x1950pro card].

has the bestbuy one been sold out for 2 weeks? Its seems strange that they would keep a sale price on something that they haven't had stock in since the 10th (unless they are getting new stock every once in a while)?

Somewhat faster (sometimes alot faster, sometimes the same, sometimes slightly slower) card for $15 more is worth it.

From earlier reviews this card wasn't that great. Has this been fixed with newer drivers or something?

Its rarely faster and ALL the new ATI cards take almost 100 more watts of power for very little (if any) more performance. I waited to do my upgrade till these came out and after reading every damn review that was released on them for the first week I'm now sitting happy with my 8800GTS. I paid 100 bucks less than this "hot deal" and mine performs just as good (in most cases) as this expensive, power hungry card.

just my 2cents. Save your money on both the card and electricity bill and go for an Nvidia

Postmortem & Trance - the point of posting this link wasn't to open a discussion of the relative merits of the HD2900XT versus the 8800GTS. There are plenty of threads in Video covering just such a topic.

The point of posting it was to simply provide a link to the cheapest available price I'd seen on the part. This forum really isn't meant to discuss the pros & cons of competing parts, but to post links to good deals.

Take the HD2900XT vs. 8800GTS debate back to the Video forum, please.

Yeah, my X1900XTX cries like a little baby at 1920x1200. :)

Seriously, I havent played a PC game in six months because I've been in need of a video card.

Luckily my Xbox360 has filled the void admirably.

has anyone noticed that the new quote system sucks monkey nuts?

Matt - I never mastered the old quote system. I would cry that your x1900xtx can't handle 1920x1200...but I won't. That's the price you pay for having such a fine monitor. ;)

Yeah I know it's my own fault. :)

I knew what I was getting myself into when I got the monitor, I actually got it for my Xbox 360 since my girlfriend has banned me from the 50" DLP TV I bought with my credit The Xbox looked like shat on my 2007WFP since the Xbox doesnt output 1680x1050 and I was stuck with 1360x768.

I just bought this monitor at the wrong time. I was completely underwhelmed by nvidia's offerings at the time. 8800GTX is way too much money and the 8800GTS 640mb didnt offer enough performance at this resolution.

That's why I am so intrigued by the 2900XT. Only a little more money than the 8800GTS 640mb and I strongly believe with the processing power and bandwidth the 2900XT offers, it will give me a real sweet spot in price/performance at 1920x1200.. Once the drivers get tweaked at least.

I'll be ordering this card by the end of the week, so we'll see if my faith in ATI/AMD is justified.

This is the hot deals section, and sometimes to determine a hot deal one needs to analyze the variables present. Posting any "deal" about an HD2900XT by logic will incur a vs type discussion. These 2900's run hot though so maybe this is a "hot" deal, lol.

XNice - that simply doesn't have to be true, my friend. A 'hot deal' doesn't have to implicitly and favorably reference a competing product in order to be a 'hot deal'. First and foremost, a 'hot deal' may simply be the best price available for a particular product, without any reference to a competing product.

The iPhone may or may not be any better than the Blackberry curve from a price/performance standpoint. There are still probably plenty of people that would like to know where they can get the best deal on an iPhone.

Your logic posits that the only factor that determines whether or not a deal is 'hot' is price/performance versus competition. That simply isn't the case. The "Versus type" discussions you reference are not the only arbiters of what constitute 'hot' deals. I can understand why it would play a central role in your decision-making process (as it does mine) but others may disagree.

Cheers.
