HD2900 lack of UVD

I've read that ATI inexplicably decided to not support UVD hardware in their HD2900 cards, but that the GPU would still support decoding features via using the stream-processors.

Does anyone know how I can tell if this is the case? There is no "GPU performance" meter in the Catalyst drivers that shows me how much, if any, of the GPU is being used at any given time. If I have EVR or VMR9 used for overlay, should I expect that some of the decoding is being done by the GPU then?

Any insights are appreciated.

Supporting decoding features via stream-processors (GPGPU) is a load of baloney I'm afraid; in theory it could be done, but since every other post-G80/R600 card has a dedicated unit for this stuff, no one does it. You have the same video decode acceleration as the R5xx parts, which is to say it doesn't offer nearly as much offloading as later cards.
