Hello,
I'm new to the forum and I did a quick search but only received one result from a dropping hard drive, so I figured I'd put a post in for this because I'm going to try fixing this myself for some experience.
I had a Samsung Story USB 3.0 External 2 TB that I kept a majority of my games and TV shows on as storage, and the drive ended up failing. "Clicks of Death", which I believe should be a failed head, but I'm just speculating based on what I have read up to this point. There are an abundance of HD204UI hard drives available in working shape, but I specifically have a HD204UI/VP4. This hard drive apparently comes in different suffixes after the slash, for instance /Z4, /JP, etc.
I was wondering if the internal hardware (heads, platters, etc.) were the same across the line, or if there were some core differences that prevented certain pieces of hardware from being interchangeable. I'd speculate the circuit board might not be, regarding firmware and such, but possibly heads are interchangeable. I'm not a guru when it comes to hard drives and firmware and such, and I'm aware of the necessity for a clean room and environment to do this. The data I have isn't overly critical, and would just be nice to recover and for some experience trying something like this out ^_^
Please let me know what you guys think! I greatly appreciate it!
