Makes sense to me! That's why i'm currently working on reading minds... if we all could, then there would no longer be a need for long posts... just replies!

Doesn't necessarily mean it's the drive that's failing. What exactly are you doing when it suddenly stops working? Which is the primary drive? What have you recently installed on the system? What OS are you running? What other type of hardware is involved?

Last time I was just listening to mp3's on winamp3, Neither is the primary, primary is a 6.4gb maxtor that works fine

Just installed xp again yesterday hoping to fix the problem, it didnt, what other hardware could be involved?

One bad hdd can lock up a system, unplug your slave or second hdd and run your computer for a while to find out if that is your problem. If your master is going bad you will have to image your system to a known good hdd using Powerquest Drive Image or Norton Ghost before you lose everything. I have had hard drives spin down and then not want to start up and hang the entire system.

Since you think one of your Maxtors is going bad you can use the Powermax diagnostic utility found on the Maxtor disk you got with the hdd or download it from the Maxtor site.
