I want to buy a hard drive for a computer I am building. Something with 16mb cache, 250G, 7200rpm. A lot of the reviews on egghead for some of these things say they are very loud. What's a relatively quiet HD under with these specs?

In my experience, Seagate hard drives have been the quietest. I also havent had one die on me....yet.

Watch for those Fry's/Outpost specials each week. I just nabbed a 250GB 16MB cache Seagate this week for $50 AR and free shipping. The newer Seagates are not super quiet, but they are also a little faster.

Seagate and Samsung are usually the best for quietness and reliablity IMO

I just got a Western Digital SE16 250gb SATA 3gb/s HD at Newegg for my new rig. Had it for about a week now....quiet, fast, no problems...$93 at newegg.com
