HD worries. What to use for RAID 0. IBM - Seagate - or others.

Hi there

I am in a bit of an dilemma here.

My situation are as follows.

I have three HD, one Baracuda IV 60GB and two IBM new 120GXP 80GB.
I want to use two HD in a RAID 0 setup, and keep the third as backup HD. But I have been very unluckey with IBM. 2 x 30 GB 75GXP changed 3 times in total. The 120GXP's have been changed (RMA) one time each they are both now in unbroken anastatic bags. Eaven though I have been unlucky with IBM, I have at the same time loved them for the speed/low noise in the drives (sick YES I know, I guess I have never lost something REALLY important)

The Baracuda IV, I have needs to be changed at Seagate if I whant to run that in a RAID setup, due to they are non funcitional in a RAID setup(got that from Seagates Support center)

My big question are now. Should I sell my new IBM 120GXP due to the fact of their "unstability" and simply buy an other brand of HD to run in the RAID 0 array. If so what brand of HD. WHAT DO YOU THINK..........or should I change the Baracuda at Seagate and buy another one to use THEM in the RAID 0 and a IBM as backup???

I know that this post proberly seems confusing but please help me out here.

By the way My Danish are better 😉

Cheers,

As you stated, the original Seagate Barracuda IV's have problems when used in raid. You can call or email Seagate for replacement drives that will work.

I have been using a pair Maxtor D740x "L" 60's in raid0 for 6+ months and have been pleased by the performance and quietness of the drives.
