HD without "electrostatic" whine?

I have a WD 7200RPM 20G drive that emits a high-pitched "electro-static" type noise during operation. I'm not talking about the sound made when the system accesses the disk, but rather the drive's normal always-on operational sound (which again sounds like a high-pitched whine).

Anyone have a suggestion for an alternative drive?

Thats funny -I have 2 WD 30gig 7200rpm drives and mine are very quiet-They are even more quiet than the Maxtor DiamondMax +40 drives that the WD drives replaced. Perhaps you have a defective drive?

Same here, got a WD 20 gig 7200 in my box too...totally silent. Its actually eerie that the darn thing makes not a sound, even when loading games like NOLF or UT...the silence is deafening!!!
