HD Will Not Mount

I have a computer that seemed to be working fine then random errors started popping up.

My first step was to just reboot the computer and now the HD will not mount. I even tried it in another identical computer and got the same result. Tried to Ghost the drive but that will not work either.

The HD is pretty old so chances are it just died but is there any way to get the data off of it if it will not mount? I could handle a few bad sectors but this is much worse atm.

Thanks

Yup, its dead. I'm just trying to get the thing up just for long enough to grab some important data off of it. I do have a backup and have it running but some data is missing that will be a pain to replace.

Toff, I see that you only had the HD in the freezer for like 2 hours (your posts).

You need to properly seal it, and let freeze overnight.

Do you have a USB adapter that you could try and pull data off of it? Set the jumper to CS if you find a usb adapter.

No I do not have a usb adapter but if all else fails I'll try that as well.

Yes I had it in there for about 2 hours in the freezer. I did not know I had to have it there overnight. I had it in multi-freezer bags and will stick it in there all night and try that again tomorrow.

I did manage to get ERD to see it for a few minutes but before I could finish a scan of the HD, it decided that it didn't want to be scanned. I have a great utility at home for getting back files but have never used it on a non-mountable one before. I'll find out if it will work tomorrow.

Thanks for the tips all.

The success rate on the freezer trick is low. It is not a long term fix, just a temp for getting the files off it. The longest i have heard that the freezer trick lasted was 1 day.
