I just have ONE question. I need some more space from my 80GB drive so I was going to update it, but then I thought of maybe getting another 80Gig SATA drive (It is a Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 80GB SATA drive) and setting it up as a RAID 0 array for the 160GB total that I want. Since this drive is ~$60 now on Newegg, would this be a better choice than buying a new drive?
System:
Athlon 64 3000+ 90nm @ 2.4Ghz
Abit AV8
2x512Mb Crucial Ballistix PC3200
Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 (only 43C under load!)
Antec SLK3700AMB case with adjustible 120mm Enermax fan
80GB Hitachi Deskstar 7k250 SATA HD--Windows XP Pro
40GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 PATA HD--Gentoo Linux
NEC ND-3500A
I also have a lot of leftover Dual Layer discs (and 50 16x DVD+R discs), so isn't this really a better decision? The drive is notably stable, and I do weekly backups as it is. I would obviously have to backup my data (correct?) and reformat the current 80gig drive before setting them up together as a RAID array, am I right on that one?
