HD Upgrade for Macbook Pro

I have a 15" macbook pro 2.16 core duo with a 100gb HD. I see that various companies are offering to install a 200 gb HD for around $400. The drive is a toshiba that is available off newegg for about $250. I've heard horror stories about working inside the MBP.

Anyone done a drive upgrade on their MBP? Seems wrong to pay $400 when the drive is about half that...

400GB? What are you talking about?

2.5" drives go up to 200GB right now and that is it. You cannot use 3.5" drives in 99.9999% of all notebooks.

Thanks for pointing out the typo so politely. :disgust:
That was pretty polite, I'm sorry I didn't stop to polish your ass after I kissed it. I could have called you a moron or a dumbass, but I generally reserve those terms for people who are jerks to those trying to help them. Oh wait...

The procedure is very similar to Alu Powerbook. You need a T6 and a philip screw driver. I've done this twice..... just becareful w/ the clips around the case.... u might bend them so make sure you straigthen them b4 putting the top case back.

Don't mind him, he has a thing about Macs in general.

That being said, upgrading the MBP HD shouldn't be that difficult if you're comfortable with taking the thing apart. They don't make it as easy as the MacBook. The ifixit guide should be easy enough to follow. I plan on upgrading as well once the next generation of 2.5" HD's come out. Hopefully I can pick up a 160GB one cheap.

Any idea when that will be?

My statement had nothing to do with Macs, it had to do with the confusion over the OP's statement and making sure he understood current hard drive options. Don't get your panties in a bunch

I'm sure there will be newer, faster, larger HD's released in 2007. Hitachi had a press release back in November that hints towards the first half of 2007: http://www.macnn.com/articles/06/11/01/hitachi.250gb.laptop.drive
Seagate, Maxtor, and Toshiba shouldn't be too far behind. Once those newer drives come out, it should knock down the price of the 160GB drives at which point I'll grab one.

edit forgot about fujitsu: http://www.macnn.com/articles/06/12/11/fujitsu.300gb.laptop.drive/

Hey Fbrd nice 2 c you again, and from all i have read it is a PITA so good luck with that, but i would find out if it voids ur warranty first.
