I've got three 150GB WD Velociraptors in a RAID 0 configuration on an Intel ICH10R controller (the set is short stroked).
Using HD Tune Pro, version 4.01, I'm achieving the following results with various block sizes (set in HD Tune Pro):
1) @ 128KB
2) @ 256KB
3) @ 512KB
4) @ 1MB
Taking these results into consideration, I'm wondering...
Which of these four benchmarks best represents the read performance of this array. Also, there's a significant variation between the tests performed with 128 and 512KB block sizes; does that have to do with the 128KB, RAID 0 stripe size? If so, how so?
Lastly, the pronounced dip that's in the 5GB neighborhood, what causes that? That portion of the disk contains Win7 (64).
I'm new to HDD benchmarking and any helpful insight would be appreciated.
Thanks!
