HD Tivo doesn't support satellite?

We're sick of this Dish Network DVR and want to go back to Tivo. However on tivo's website they discribe the HD Tivo as something that (seems) not to support satellite connections.

We have direct TV and we'd like to have an HD DVR and prefer Tivo. Any help appreciated.

😕
My major complaint about the Dish 622 is the lack of a screen saver when it's paused for more than a minute or two.

The DirecTV DVR is pretty good IMO. I have a non-HD Tivo in the bedroom (because DirecTV used to have actual Tivo boxes) so that's all I can compare it to. There are some things I like better about the Tivo and some that I like better about the DVR. Nothing really bad about either one though.

The guide on the DirecTV DVR is orders of magnitude slower than the Dish. Seems more like it's pulling it down live as opposed to caching it.

I wouldn't say Dish DVR sucks but I do think Tivo is better. I'm confused by the OP, though. He's sick of the dish network DVR but has direcTV. ???

Mine comes up pretty quick. It's not instant but it's not like I'm waiting going WTF either.

My sister-in-law just got set up with one to go with their new HDTV, and coming from the Dish I WAS waiting going WTF.

It takes a day or three before the DTV DVR will have all of the guide data. Pay her a visit over the weekend, and report back.

This is my only issue with it. Great DVR otherwise imo (as is Tivo)

You have to get a DirecTV DVR. Currently they have the HR20, which has OTA capability built in. I don't think they make them anymore, but some stores still have them. It is silver, and has a 300GB hard drive.

The HR21 is basically the same as the HR 20, except it can't do OTA. They have a usb adapter that will give it OTA though. It is black, and has a 320GB hard drive.

Next is the HR21 Pro. It's designed for rack mounted installs, and has an optical HDMI output. It also has a larger hard drive, 500GB.

Doesn't DirectTV use Tivo anyway?

BTW- Dish's DVR is complex. If you don't like it, you probably don't know how to use all the shortcuts yet. It's actually pretty powerful. The only thing it sucks at is searching.

Directv used to use Tivo.

Not anymore. I will be honest, the HR20 is WAY better than te HR10-250(tivo model).

The only advantage the tivo had was dual live buffers.

I've gotten use to the new DVR, but I do miss the dual buffer.

Optical HDMI?

One solution is use the Hauppauge WinTV HD-PVR with a computer PVR (e.g. SageTV). The other is the 169time solution with a computer PVR.

I never had a problem with Dish's DVR. Wasn't sometimes the most user friendly - some quirks, but wasn't bad. Still like my FIOS DVR the best over any other ones I've used.

Optical HDMI?

This will explain it.

They also just released the HR22 which is the same as the HR21 with a 500GB hard drive.
