HD Temp worries me...

I recently purchased a Retail boxed Maxtor 250GB HD w/8MB Cache from Fry's for $99.99 without any rebates. I am amazed at the speed! (PATA133)

BUT,

I had the system sitting on my desk for a week, before putting it into a case. The HD got so hot, that it scared me. I could touch it and don't really know how hot it is, but I've never noticed one being this hot. Any one have any info on HD temp issues? I know it could reduce the life of the drive.

Keep you warranty information on hand for when (not if) you need to get the warranty replacement drive. Did that drive come with a 1 or 3 year warranty?? Personally, I'll not buy ANY drive with less than a 3 year warranty (prefer 5 years like those on ALL Seagate drives now). If you're really concerned, don't keep anything of value on the drive...
