HD slower?

Ok I got a new HD for my new Mac Book pro 13". I got the laptop in Dec 2010 but 250 GB was not cutting it plus my Moms laptop HD just went so I figured buy a nice 500 GB for me and give her my 250.

Is the OEM drive in the mac. I orders a WD 500 to replace it.

Now I know the new HD is not going to be SSD speeds but why the $%$& is it slower then the old 250? It seems to randomly pause which my Mac never did before. The OSX HD tool says the drive is fine and I tried Xbench and it seemed fine also.

This was a fresh install of Snow Leopard.

Drives vary a bit in speed, hard to say what will be faster unless you look at test results. Maybe a driver issue too. For a Mac I'd stick with Hitachi and get a 7200rpm drive.

Well from reading the feedback on newegg to the link you posted it looks like that particular drive has issues with parking the heads prematurely in non-windows OS... causing a lag.
