HD slower on IDE channel 2?

I hooked up my DVD as master on IDE 1, CDr as slave on IDE 1 and my HD as master on IDE 2. Everything going fine, except maybe I'm going nuts but it seems like my comp is running a lot slower since I installed the CDr drive. Maybe the CDR drive is slowing down my comp somehow, or maybe the second IDE channel is slower then the 1st? Any thoughts? I installed the HD on 2 because the silly IDE cable wouldn't stretch from the CDR and DVD drive all the way to the 2nd IDE connector.

you can buy longer than the standard 45 cm ide cable!
