HD Screwd - Need Help

About 2 weeks ago my computer screwd up...when i started the computer it had constant beeps...i called up the company i bought the computer from and they said it was either the ram or the motherboard. I had just bought some RAM so i guessed it would be that. I bought two more pieces of RAM but still no fix. I got a new motherboard (listed below) and it fixed the problem. I got into bios and configured everything (at least i think i did it correctly). When windows started up it came up with a BSOD (before starting up) that said windows has been shut down and to check it for viruses and remove any new HD stuff or configure it properly. So i enabled S.M.A.R.T (for HDs to check themselves when starting up) and it said HD Bad, Backup and Replace. Before i had the initial problem of the beeping whenever i first started the computer i would need to restart because it would not detect the HD or give some beeping noises. All i used to do is restart it and everything would be ok. Over the last months the problem seemed to get worst. However, i replaced the IDE cable with the one they provided with the motherboard....still no fixing. Is there anyway that i can fix this problem without replacing the HD. Could drivers fix the problem?

My Specs:
K7S5A mobo
Athlon 800 Thunderbird
256 CAS2 PC-133 Crucial RAM
30 Gig (dont know the make of the HD) HD

Two other questions:
What HD should i buy if i need to get another one? (considering value and quality)
Does this mobo support RAID?

THANKS

Go to the Hdd manufacturer's site and download their easy-to-use bootable utility disk. Seagate's utility is supposed to work on any HDD, if you have some weird label drive or can't find their utility. If the utility can't make the drive right, them the drive needs to be replaced.

If the utility pronounces the drive good, you may need to wipe it clean and re-install everything.... again, the utility disk will do a thorough wipe....

Any of the major manufacturers' drives are good quality, avoid the IBM gxp75. Your drive may be under warranty, it's usually three years.....

Have you tried to boot to a Win98 floppy (assuming you are using Win98) and reinstall windows over top of itself?

UNfortunately there was most likely nothing wrong with the ECS mobo as well and it got blamed for other issues....

I only state this as a point that it is not always what it seems and we need to troubleshoot thoroughly before we cast blame...I have felt that not only a large number of ECS rma's but rma's of motherboards in general are related to something else entirely or user error...

Companies like newegg et them back and fire them up and poof they work...The bundle them up and sell them as refurbs...This is my general theory on it...
