So here is my dilemma, my in laws purchased a Sirius Starmate 5 radio for me with the "complete car kit" and a $50 gift card, a nice gift that was truly unexpected....

However in looking at the car kit and how it integrates I have decided that it just isn't for me out of the box and as such have scheduled an appt with a local stereo shop to install it professionally, a nice mount instead of the suction cup on the windshield, hardwire the power, professionally run the antenna, and as a last part of this a new in dash system as the factory unit sucks and I have wanted an aux input for some time....

I was wondering if also investing in an HD radio deck from JVC is worth it with Satellite or if I should pass and just get an economy Alpine reciever for about $50 less...the radio guys said that people typically pick HD or Sat and not both...didn't know if anyone had any experience in this arena and was willing to share their thoughts, thanks.

I love HD radio but it isn't good for long trips. If you drive mostly in a city it is great. Far more variety on satellite....

I really enjoy satellite radio. If you already have the satellite system save your money and don't get the HD.

sat rad FTW. HD radio can't even come close as far as content is concerned. and try doing a roadtrip w/ hd radio
