I'm about to upgrade my HD to WD 160 gig 8MB... anyways my friend tells me my comp won't read it with out something add-on to it?...

I have a P4 1.6 with win XP sp1 on it... is my friend right or is he full of bs?

i am not quite sure what he means by "add on" but you will need the windows xp disk to install winXP to your new hard drive.

are you replaceing the drive that windows is on or just adding this in as a 2nd HD?

if you are replaceing teh current windows drive you will need to format and install windows on it

if you are just adding it as a 2HD you just need to plug it in, and format it from inside windows

He might be talking about the 128GB limit which would prevent your computer from seeing more than that amount. If you're installing XP w/ SP1 on the system it should be OK. Although a P4 1.6 system is pretty old, so you might have a BIOS issue. Make sure you have the most recent BIOS update for your motherboard.

Well I haven't been keeping myself up-to-date with current hardware for awhile now so I have no idea what SATA is and i'm starting to know what RAID is. Yeah my comp is old so I'm thinking of selling it and building a whole new system with more power... it's been 3-4 years since I built a comp... I guess this is a good excuse to do it
