HD question, a simple one

Very simple question.

A 15000 RPM scsi HD with a 4mb buffer will still out perform an 7200 RPM IDE HD with an 8mb buffer right??

Also, i know i sound stupid but, what does this mean?

Do i ahve a 4mb buffer or 16mb?

Yes faster what scsi drive is it? What drive is it your buffer should be 8mb also.
Seagate, Maxtor, Fujitsu, Hitachi all got 8mb

I dont think so. The 7200 Western Digital Raptor drives with 8mb cache buffer were outperforming some other hard drive (not sure what brand) that was a 15000RPM drive and the Raptor was walking all over it.

Sorry. I made a mistake. The Raptor drive is a 10,000 RPM drive. I apologize.

The drive is a Seagate Cheetah X15 - ST318451LC

Do you think it will be any good?

The LWV has a 4 MB buffer and the other model LCV has a 16 Mb buffer. The advantage with this SCSI drive is that it has very small platters and 5 of them.(wheras present drives have 1 or 2 huge platters) THis reduces the average seek time. (I think it should be around 3.5msec) which is way faster than the 7.2Krpm drives. Unless they are coupled on RAID for striping, your SCSI drive should be faster........
