This system has been running since I put it together for a friend in July of 2005.
A month or two ago it won't boot. It runs in a continuous loop.
The HD has bad sectors. I run the Seagate diagnostic and then do a fixboot, maybe fixmbr (don't recall) and it boots and runs with no apparent ill affects. The HD is under warranty, so I RMA it and Acronis the old drive to the new. In questioning him, I find that they had been having power problems in the neighborhood and they lost a few appliances to the surges. OK, plug it into the surge protector not the power strip from now on you dummy! He complies.
Well it's back. Continuous no-boot loop again. Seagate diagnostic shows all OK. So, I throw in the XP CD, figure to do a fixboot or whatever again, but it analyzes the HD and wants to reboot and then it boots fine.
I've been hearing about Antec PS problems and am wondering if this could be the culprit?
