HD problem

The Bios can't recognize my HD. One chip in the back of the HD is hot when I supply voltage. Is there anyway to recover the data? I was thinking buying the same model of the HD and exchange the boards. Is it possible to make my HD work?

What model hard drive is it? If it's still under warranty, you should be able to exchange it. That seems to be the problem, not the motherboard.

Do you have auto detect selected on the CMOS when you try to install the hard drive?

What OS was running on the old hard drive? Did you create emergency disks? If so, you should be able to get it to work.

If not, try Norton Utilities.

Good luck.
