hello guys, i need a laptop but i have some budget restrictions, so i want to establish what is the minimum hardware that can run HD 1080p and vista aero? will a dual core with intel GMA 950 be sufficient?
since i am from south asia, i wont have majority of brands ,or sufficient series of any notebook,so just wanted to establish the 'bare minimum' necessary

That will not do it at all.
Don't forget also, that you would want a minimum screen res of 1920*1080 to really put 1080p video to use.

many newer laptops come with graphics card that have a built-in HD decoder. Buy a laptop with one of those and youre set. I cant keep up with all the models that have HD decoding hardware, but the Intel 4500HD is one example.

What's your budget, while we're at it? Might get some suggestions that way, as well

isnt that meant for netbook platforms? there are already laptops with the necessary hardware to play 1080p video

this is the prime seller in my area.

I can buy all under 60,000 PKR, thought the least i spend the better it would be.So for example , if i can run vista aero, and HD 1080 p on a 1.6 GHZ atom [around 27000 PKR ] or a dual core [around 43000 PKR] , I will buy that instead.

I really cannot think of a new notebook (not a netbook) that can't do 1080p. I mean hell my Atom 1.6ghz netbook can do 720p just fine.

You don't NEED hardware h.264 decode, it just helps keep cpu utilization down.

Be sure to get the coreavc codec though, 720p content was not possible in my netbook without it.

my Intel GMA x3100 plays 1080p content fine with k-lite codec pack and MPC
CPU is P8600.
