HD performance jump - is it worth it?

I currently have a 20GB 7200 HD and I'm wondering how much faster these latest HD's are and how noticeable the performance jump is.

For drives with equal platter density, do larger HD's with more platters give better performance because a larger amount of info can be written on the outside?

Does the 8MB cache really make that much difference?

I've seen the figures, but I'd like to know what difference to expect if I buy one of these babies.
