HD out on Nvidia

? the 6800gt has dvi out dsub out and svideo out. Is there any way ot say use a dvi to component or dsub to component adapter of some kind no a 6800gt?

I believe it is completely different signaling, if the card doesnt have a HD tuner built in, youll have to get one that does.

HD tuners are a totaly seprate issue and no video cards have those built in. what is needed is transcoder to covert VGA's RGB-HV signal to component's YPbPr format. Here page with a writeup on how it works from a store that sells a couple of options:

http://www.digitalconnection.com/FAQ/HDTV_4.asp

Granted, for the price you might be better off just swaping the 6800gt out for a card that supports component output natively. But that is assuming your TV doesn't support any Digital or RGB input capablity, otherwise there is no reason to mess with YPbPr.

ouch. I though ti was c\heap like the ati dvi to component adapter. I guess svideo for me then. my tv has compnent in, svideo and rca.

I have the same question posted HERE. My Leadtek 6600GT PCIe came with an s-video output nVidia-labeled pigtail. One end plugs into s-video output from card and the other end has a large block with video/s-video/component out (3 plugs). I assume that all I do is use this pigtail to send progressive scan signals through the component input on my Samsung LCD TV. I don't know how much that pigtail would cost, but since it came free with my card I don't imagine it would cost too much.

Haven't tried to use this yet as I just bought my Samsung, but I'll try in the next few days and report back.

Is it an HDTV? you wont really see a difference on component with regular NTSC or PAL resolution anyway.

Edit i belive almost all of the new leadtek and evga high end cards have native HDTV component out.

I have seen those breakout boxes as well. But the connection on the card itself for those isnt s-video IIRC, its proprietary.

From your link:
Note:
These cables are not compatible with PC or Mac video card outputs unless specifically stated in your video card. They also do not support Y, Cr, Cb signals. If you're looking for a way to use your computer video output with your HDTV display, check out our VGA to HDTV Converter.
6800s don't support component output, that cable you linked is made for cards that do. It would also work if the TV can accept a RGB signal over component, but most don't.
