Ive had this hard drive for about 2 yrs now. Its just a standard 80 gig 7200 rpm western digital hard drive slaved up to my 160 gig drive which doesnt have an issue. When i checked how much space it had left, xp told me that it had only 4 gigs left. So, i deleted a full halo install, a full ut2k4 install and about 500 megs of other misc crap. Now it reports that i have 3.5 gigs left. When i select all of the folders and see how big they are, it only takes up 62 gigs of space. Both methods detect the maximum space for the drive. That number scales evenly with the number that it should be reading as a reflection of the deleted files. No i dont have any hidden files and yes i have cleared my recycle bin. I have also ran norton system works 2004's equivalent of scan disk, defragmenter, windoctor, and anti virus on this machine. I have also reinstalled xp pro once and it says the same thing. The drive works perfectly except it wont let me install the game i deleted again (ut2k4) because it reports i dont have enough space... It apparently has an issue with reading free space. Is there something im forgetting to do here? I really dont see how windows is seeing the wrong size of the drive. Any questions about the system are in the sig.
