specs

p4 3.2
2x 512 ddr400
aiw9600
2x WD 160gb hd. both partitioned so 4 drives showing
350 psu

i've noticed that each time after i encode video files to divx, d: , i'd be unable to play, rename or even move the files to a different drive until i cleared up some space on the drive that contains the divx files d:. the open folder would freeze and i would have to go to task manager to close the d: drive. Anyone any ideas?

Does this happen if you stop all unnecessary progs starting up at boot.
Do you have winamp installed?

i do not have winamp installed. have been using windows media player for all audio/ video playback.

haven't turned off any programs from start up as i wouldn't know where to begin. though i've noticed this line

mpeg2dmx.ax

could it be my decoder that's causing a problem?

START
RUN
type MSCONFIG
go to STARTUP tab.
untick everything except bare essentials [systray/registryscan]
reboot.

thanks for the help by the way montag451,
i turned off everything except vptray and it still freezes everytime i click on that video file. in fact, all i would need to do is hover my arrow over it and it would freeze.
Any other ideas?

That mpeg2dmx looks familiar....

Can you disable your video card temporarily and see if you can open the file, or at least hovver without crashing it?

okay,
so i disabled the vid card and the same thing happens, file/folder freezes.

more details: it was a series of 22min divx files that was encoding and it narrows down to one file in the series. i'm able to move the other files and rename them fine it's just that last file.
anyhow, i was able to delete it but i fear it may happen again. any other possibilities running with the mpeg2dmx file? thanks.

Have you got 'enable thumbnail' disabled in explorer?
That might cause grief,

Also, if that file is corrupted, then just hope that you don't get another corrupted [in the same way] vid.

See what happens

i've deleted the media files and ran scan and defrag on the drive, nothing peculiar showing up.
I've a western digital drive. i'll see if they have any utilities.

uninstall or update the software that gives you mpeg2dmx.dll

have you got the Elecard Mpeg 2 software package?

okay, so i ran the utilities/diagnostic tool from WD site and no anomolies pop up. I ran the quick and the full test.

i do not have that software montag, is it a free download? As far as the mpeg2dmx.dll file, i'm not sure which software it came from, perhaps a divx decoder? i believe the codecs are current but i may be wrong.

edit: found and installed the codec package with same results. :( any other ideas? thanks.

uninstall all codecs on the system, then reboot
install only the ones you are likely to need. - don't do the 30MB package!

Go to the Divx site and find one that is little and proved.
try divx 5.21
