HD-less SETI Sneakernet

Just in time for the end of the project... 😛

I finally realized that the best way to get a couple of the Wildnet boxes running SETI was to sneakernet them entirely. I'd tried saving WUs to disk before, but I'd always downloaded them online first. This system lets you sneakernet 5 WUs at a time.

First you need to get one of the LRP SETI distros from here. Then this tarball contains all the other files you should need (I think). Copy the .lrp file over the one on the floppy (it's MS-DOS formatted). If necessary, I believe you can delete the dhclient.lrp file (though I've never tried it.) The sneaky batch is used to fetch and flush the 5 WUs held on one floppy. All the other batches are used simply to make sneaky compatible with regular Linux instead of LRP.

If you don't have Linux, you can make a disk of WUs if you can GZip them. Gzip just the work_unit.sah files, rename them to wu[1-5].gz, and put them in likewise numbered directories on a blank MS-DOS formatted floppy. The sneaky script should do this automatically.

Boot the LRP disk. It will check every minute until you swap in the disk of WUs, but on your first boot you should change the user_info.sah file first. Once running, my system will replace the wu[1-5].gz files with res[1-5].tar files (which are also gzipped) as it completes WUs.

Please post any comments or bug reports.
