HD LCD Monitor

If I wanted to potentially use my monitor for High Def TV viewing and HD DVDs, what are the minimum requriement for the monitor? Does it have to say it is for HD or do I need minimum resolutions? Thanks

1280x720 is 720p, 1920x1080 is 1080p. Most computer monitors are capable of showing high def since most are >1280x720.

Does the HDCP affect television or just dvd's and such? I have done a little reading on that but can I hook up HD cable to any monitor with the HD box and see HD?

Actually I am still using the old style but since it is old I am anticipating getting a LCD and want to know what I need to get. Sorry.

if you are concerned about HD, then go for widescreen. For 1080i/p capable monitor, you are looking at US$650+ and 24" size.

I use component video now for my tv because my cable box doesn't have HDMI, I have to sign up for DVR to get that. So I don't need a HDCP monitor to watch High Def?

Also I am interested in that "trickery". Is there some way to get HD out of digital cable without buying another one of their boxes? Time Warner wants 7.50 a month for each extra box you get. Is this my only option to get HD off their cable? I might add, legally?
