hi, I have recently purchased an abit kg7 (non raid version but not the Lite). i already have a 10gb ultra66 ide hd, and wish to purshase a maxtor 15.3gb 7200rpm ATA/100 hd, will i have to run the hd's on seperate ide channels to let the maxtor use the ata/100 setting?

Yes, in theory . . . but in practice you will be unable (in applications) to notice any difference between 66 and 100. You could run them both as MA and SL on the same channel at 66 and find no appreciable difference in performance as far as apps are concerned.
